Prior to planting we drench the soil with Wallys Silicon plus Boron Soil Drench used at 10ml per litre to cover one SqM. Then about 1-2 weeks after planting when say a tomato is starting to show new growth a further drench is applied to the root zone.
Plants with tough amour like cells greatly reduce damage from insects and diseases because they are difficult to feed on or establish. This is a new concept for NZ gardeners. This process has shown favourable results overseas. We strengthen the plant’s cells with Silicon by soil drenches and sprays.
My thoughts on this are to control the damage done by the psyllid pests on tomatoes, potatoes, tamarillos and other host plants. The reason for this is because psyllids have weak feeding mouths and I know of a commercial tamarillo grower that has his plantation in silicon rich soil and he suffers no psyllid damage, yet not too far away another commercial grower lost his business on a different soil type.
How it is done: Prior to planting we drench the soil with Wallys Silicon plus Boron Soil Drench used at 10ml per litre to cover one SqM. Then about 1-2 weeks after planting when say a tomato is starting to show new growth a further drench is applied to the root zone.
(Comes in a 500ml bottle that does 50 SqM)
